Level 1

The first level of charging represents the slow end of the charging spectrum, able to provide up to 3 to 5 miles of range per hour of charging. Despite its slowness, this connection is the most accessible, as it utilizes any standard power outlet or 120 V connection.

A Level 1 charging cord will be provided when you purchase an electric vehicle, but you can also have a specified Level 1 charging station installed in your home for increased charging ease.

Level 2

In the middle of the charging speed spectrum is the Level 2 connection. Level 2 connections can restore as much as 12 to 80 miles of electric range per hour of charging but require a 240V connection to work. Not all residences have 240V electrical outlets that an external charging cord can hook up to, but an electrician can install a charging station or outlet if you end up choosing this option.

Level 3

The fastest level of charging is the Level 3 connection, which can restore as much as 60% of your vehicle’s battery in only 30 minutes. Unfortunately, these connections are not currently available for residential use, but the amount of public Level 3 charging stations has increased exponentially over recent years.
